Abstract

The article describes the history of research on Baltic languages in Moscow from the second half of the 19th century, when the Lithuanian language began to be taught at Moscow University. At different times, the
Moscow State University, the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the “Baltrušaitis House” at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Russian Federation, and the Institute of Linguistics of
the Russian Academy of Sciences were the centers of research on Baltic studies in Moscow.
The article describes the main directions in development of Balto-Slavic studies in Moscow, gives the names of prominent scholars in this field and provides a bibliography of the major publications.

Maria Zavyalova, PhD in Philology, Senior Researcher at the Department of Typology and Comparative Linguistics, Center for Balto-Slavic Studies, Institute of Slavic Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia. Her
research interests are in the field of Balto-Slavic linguistic and ethnocultural contacts, Slavic and Baltic languages, folklore, ethnolinguistics, psycholinguistics, semiotics.
