So far, this topic has been very little studied. Usually, the Arctic indigenous peoples’ organisation are depicted as organisations who conflict with the state and academic institutions, or resist the policies of the dominant society. As a fact, the organisations of the Arctic indigenous people often cooperate with various state and academic actors, or participate in their work. For instance, several such organisations participate in the work of the Arctic Council.

An on a national level, indigenous organisations not only cooperate with the state agencies but also hire academic researchers. Of course, there is also a great deal of mistrust and avoidance, but indigenous organisations do not exclude cooperation per se.

The aims of the project is to study the various forms of such cooperation and existing networks. We also scrutinise ethical and political aspects of such cooperation. As a result of our research there should be a better picture and deeper analysis of these networks and relationships, leading to a better understanding of the nature and functioning of the organisations of the Arctic indigenous people. Hopefully our analysis will contribute to better overall mutual cooperation in the Arctic.

Projektist
