Across Borders conference series

The history of the Across Borders Conference goes back to Klagenfurt, Austria, in the late 1990s, where Prof. Fritz König organised international symposia on minority cultures and literatures in cooperation with the University of Northern Iowa. In 2002 the conference was taken over by Krosno State College and organised every two years since then. As an itinerant conference Aross Borders has changed its location from Krosno to Kosice and Sarospatak, involving partner institutions - Pavol Jozef Šafárik University and Comenius College - in the organising work.

The conference series focuses on the following topics:

  • migration and narration,
  • autobiography and identity,
  • the other in literature,
  • minority cultures and literatures,
  • dialectology,
  • cross-cultural aspects of translation,
  • pragmatics of intercultural communication,
  • creativity and tradition in cultural communication,
  • humour in culture and society,
  • language contacts,
  • cultural and linguistic globalization,
  • culture and the teaching of languages.
