The Minstrel Game

Helmi Vill Urvaste (1965)

Mängijad kahes rühmas, laulavad vastamisi.

Tõsõl l´ekõril l´äävä,
midäs l´ekõri tahtva?
L´ekõr tahtse leiku lüvvä,
leiku lüvvä, eiku lüvvä,
selle kehväle talulõ,
selle uvvõlõ murulõ.
Mis mi anna l´ekõrile?
Ei olõk kulda,
ei olõ õbõ'õt,
ei tinna tettüt,
ei vaskõ valõtut.
Kuri ool´ ti kullastõ,
õel teie õbõ'õstõ.
Es´ teil kotun kuldasepät,
tii veeren tinasepä,
vanial vaskisepäq.
Mi taha errä,
pääle errä esändet.
Võta, võta errä,
pääle errä esändet.
Sai tark tal´lipoiss,
oolikas obõstõpoiss,
tal´li söödi, tal´li joodi,
taga talli tantsutõli,
läbi akna an´d aina,
läbi pilu pistis kaaraq.

The players are in two teams and they sing in turn to each other.

The other minstrels are leaving.
What do the minstrels want?
The minstrel wants to play,
to play and lay,
on this wretched farm,
on this new grass.
What should we give the minstrel?
We have no gold,
neither silver,
nor wrought tin,
nor moulded copper.
The devil cares for your gold,
the evil one for your silver.
At home you have your own goldsmiths,
tinsmiths by the road,
coppersmiths on the village green.
We want the lord,
along with the lord, the master.
Take him, take him the lord,
along with lord, the master!
There was a clever stable hand,
a careful horse boy,
he fed and gave them drink in the stable,
he danced them behind the stable,
he gave them hay through the window,
stuck oats for them through cracks in the wall.
