Meadows for the Herds to Wander On

Marie Sepp Kolga-Jaani (1937)

Lõpe, lõpe, põllukene,
elele, elele,
vähäne sa, väl´läkene,
saa otsa, saarekene,
et saaks väl´läd karja käia,
saared sälu mängütada!

Kui sa-i lõpe, siia jätän,
siia jätän sirgu süiä,
sirgu süiä, kärbi käiä,
tedrele teha pesida.

Finish, finish, precious field,
elele, elele,
get smaller, dear meadow,
end finally, marsh island,
so the herd can wander on the meadow,
the colts can frolic on the marsh island!

If you don't finish, I'll just leave you,
leave you for the birds to eat,
for the birds to eat and the stoats to wander across,
for the grouse to build their nests on.
