If the 9-syllable verse or longer includes at least two 3-syllable (or 1+1+1, 1+2, 2+1) words, it lengthens by one metrical unit. If such longer verse does not include at least two 3-syllable words, only a variation in rhythm takes place and two syllables fill the position of one.
